About

Hello, I am Timothy Caraway. I have been writing articles, lessons and books for many years. I have spent my summers in a remote area of Alaska since I was a kid, fishing for salmon on a commercial set net site.

I live on a small lake with my wife and children in the Big Lake area of Alaska. I have always had a passion for sailing and kayaking. Even in the winter, if the conditions are right, I will get out one of my homemade ice boats to sail at speeds greater than the wind!

Another passion of mine is martial arts and how it particularly relates to self-defense. Shoshindo, a style I developed in order to teach the most effective self defense for the average person, always assumes the attacker is bigger and stronger. My desire was to develop a truly effective martial art that would help keep my wife and children safe. I find the various ways of dealing with potential attackers fascinating, and always work to find more efficient ways of dealing with physical confrontations at any level.

A favorite pastime of mine is “stump hunting”. Frequently, on my solo hikes and runs, I will carry a bow and “flu flu” arrows with rubber tips to shoot at stumps and dead trees. This way I keep my archery skills, as well as my body, in top shape!

There are many community activities I have been involved in such as the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce, Special Olympics, and as a minister in the children’s prison facilities as well as children’s mental facility. I am currently involved with Palmer Toastmasters, part of an international leadership and public speaking club.
